Hash Bash 2013

Surrounded by thousands of cheering supporters and clouds of smoke at Saturday's Hash Bash, state Rep. Jeff Irwin pledged to fight for the legalization of marijuana in Michigan. Irwin, D-Ann Arbor, said he's still planning to introduce a bill to decriminalize cannabis in the state, which he called a first step toward more sensible drug policy. Police estimated roughly 3,000 people attended the 42nd annual Hash Bash rally on the University of Michigan Diag in Ann Arbor on Saturday. Read the story.

Lord Byron Security Team

Ray Malo and Thabiso Stringer Mhlaba are the masterminds behind the Ann Arbor-based musical group known as Lord Byron Security Team. On March 2, 2013, they played an impromptu show at the Kiwanis Thrift Shop in downtown Ann Arbor.

A New Hope

Everyone knows god spelled backwards is dog, but that doesn't mean the congregation of New Hope Baptist Church in Ann Arbor wants a dog park in its backyard. The Rev. Rodrick Green and Church Trustee Thomas Miree are speaking out against the city's proposal to establish a small off-leash playground for canines at the Chapin Street entrance to West Park, directly across the street from the church.

My premium attempt to get a shot of the fancy new Asian fusion restaurant on Liberty Street in downtown Ann Arbor from outside looking through the window. I actually had a frame that turned out nicely, but this is more fun — it lets you image what it'd be like if pedestrian and vehicle traffic cut through the inside of the restaurant. The drive-thru of the future, if you will. Oh, the place is called Kuroshio.
