State Of Emergency

The Rev. David Bullock, president of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition and Highland Park NAACP, stood alongside the Rev. Charles E. Williams II, pastor of the historic King Solomon Baptist Church in Detroit, today during an Occupy for Democracy rally at a park down the street from Gov. Rick Snyder's home just outside of Ann Arbor. "We will not tolerate emergency dictators," Bullock shouted through a megaphone to a crowd of several hundred cheering supporters who came out to protest the state's emergency manager law. The Art Of (Recall) War

The campaign to recall Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder hit the crowded streets of Ann Arbor today for the first day of Art Fair, with an estimated 150 volunteers collecting signatures. Brit Satchwell, president of the Ann Arbor Education Association and one of the organizers of the effort, said the goal is to collect 4,000 to 5,000 signatures over four days — and that shouldn't be hard considering 500,000 people are expected to attend the festival. Standing Up

Calling Republican Gov. Rick Snyder's proposed budget an attack on Michigan's working class families, several citizens and community leaders spoke out today in Ann Arbor. "If we don't stand together as one and work together against this budget that is being proposed, the whole state is going to be in a devastated state," Lois Richardson, Ypsilanti's mayor pro-tem, said during a press conference at the Ann Arbor Community Center.
