Meeting Ingrid

So I met one of my favorite musicians, Ingrid Michaelson, and her band today following a free Borders in-store performance. I spent the last several days drawing a picture of her to get autographed. She was happy to sign it and seemed humbled by it. She said something like, "Wow, people tell me all the time I have talent, but I've got nothing on you."

The scene at tonight's Ann Arbor City Council meeting. The rowing community is in favor of keeping Argo Dam in place because it's what makes Argo Pond possible.

Black Nerd

Detroit native and University of Michigan graduate David Alan Grier shared a moment with an old childhood friend after his book reading Sunday afternoon at the Ann Arbor District Library. Grier said he and his friend were "blerds" growing up in Detroit, a.k.a. "black nerds." He recalled a time they tried joining the Black Panthers at age 15 but were turned away because they didn't exactly fit the profile. Grier's new book, "Barack Like Me," touches on politics, culture and race as it relates to his own life.

The Moravian

The Ann Arbor Planning Commission postponed approval tonight of an apartment project called The Moravian. Developer Jeff Helminski of the Moravian Co. plans to market his building to young professionals. He proposes a 63-unit, four-story, multiple-family residential building with 164 bedrooms, 90 parking spaces underground, and three work units at the ground level. Read the story.
