Spartans, We Salute You

The University of Michigan Wolverines fell to the rival Michigan State University Spartans today in Ann Arbor. This was the scene around town before the football game started. Lots of maize and blue, and some green and white. And lots of MIPs.

Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers are on tour right now with Sara Watkins, a surprisingly delightful, up-and-coming singer-songwriter and fiddler. They stopped through the Blind Pig in Ann Arbor Thursday night. I just had to weasel my way up front at one point to try to get a couple of shots. I shot photos during one song and took a quick glance down at my camera before the snarky girl behind me said, "Yeah, you can look at those back at your seat." No love for the photographer. Good show, though.

Outtakes from Hell's Half Mile 2010.

After the festival wound down late Saturday night (and we're really talking early Sunday morning), the party shifted to an empty loft space above Avram Golden's gallery in downtown Bay City where Champions of Breakfast entertained the crowd the only way they know how: with lasers.

Matt Pond PA was the headliner Saturday night at the music portion of Hell's Half Mile, which took place at the Masonic Temple in downtown Bay City.

Photos From Hell Part VII

I have a feeling many who saw the Michigan-based rock quartet Ghost Heart take the stage Saturday night at the Hell's Half Mile Film & Music Festival in Bay City left with a new addition to their list of favorite bands. The band, which includes my old college newspaper colleague Troy Reimink, holds a lot of promise and plans to release an album this fall. Check out the band's Facebook page here.
